Ahead of the release ofExtraction 2on Netflix, directorSam Hargravesis already looking ahead to the future. As of now, Netflix has not put in the order for a third movie, and the potentiality of another installment of the series likely hinders on the success ofExtraction 2. With that said, Hargraves wants to be prepared in case the fans love the sequel and want a third movie, as he’s already gotten started on the story. He also teases that Chris Hemsworth is also game to return for a third adventure as Tyler Rake.
“We’re kind of waiting to see how the second movie is received," Hargrave said, perBroBible. “Fingers crossed, if people enjoy the second one, there already is — and this is without spoiling anything — but there is a story in development for a third movie in the works. What it is exactly, I can’t say right now, but I believe there is another adventure in the wind for Tyler Rake.”
Hemsworth recently suggested he was taking a sabbatical from acting to spend more time with his family. Hargrave added that he respects this, and even ifExtraction 2is greenlit in the near future, the director plans to hold off on production until Hemsworth is ready to get back on the set. He also speaks to how much Hemsworth loves the Tyler Rake character.
“He is taking a step back to spend more time with family because he is a family man and that’s very important to him, and enjoy the life that he’s earned,” the director says. “But the desire to take this character as far as it can go, and the fact that he has a franchise outside of the Marvel universe I think are two things that are very enticing to Chris.”
He added, “Because to be heading a franchise that has the emotional core and depth that Tyler Rake does, and still have this globe-trotting, action grittiness to it — I think those are two pretty cool characteristics and I think he recognizes that. So when we spoke, yes, he said he would be interested in perhaps reprising the role.”

Extraction 2’s Success May Bring About a Third Movie
Hemsworth also recently spoke about his love for Tyler Rake in a separate interview withTotal Film. He’s so proud ofExtraction 2, feeling that the sequel even tops the first movie, and that has him excited about the possibility of doing another movie in that universe.
“I love it. Ilove playing the character. I love this world,” Hemsworth said. “I love having something else outside of Marvel that’s amassed a bit of a following, something more in the real world. I honestly feel like we made a better film than the first one. That’s rare in the franchise world. We’d be remiss not to have a crack at another one.”
