Maxis known for its quality television shows, and the selections next month are most definitely worth watching. However, given the level of superb programming the platform consistently offers, there isn’t always a slew of shows to choose from, especially when they’reHBO or Max originals. Luckily, the shows joining the service next month are highly anticipated and will hopefully deliver.
With shows such asTrue Detective: Night Country,The Last of Us, andThe White Lotuscurrently on hiatus, viewers should look no further than what Max has to offer for March. While the premise for each upcoming series is wildly different from the aforementioned shows, the same level of fandom is possible. Both forthcoming shows are limited series, although one is political satire while the other is a heartbreaking documentary. Nonetheless, they can indeed be enjoyed by everyone. The Regime

The Regimeis a limited political satire series that stars Kate Winslet as Elena Vernham, the chancellor of a fictional Central European autocracy. The show unfolds over a span of one year within the walls of the country’s palace as the authoritarian regime begins to unravel. Threatened by domestic turmoil, Elena grows increasingly paranoid as her position and grip on the country grows more unstable. While the series draws inspiration from the general dynamics of power, control, and oppression within any authoritarian regime, the show is not based on any particular country. However, its place within Europe is clearly defined as such an identity shapes the manner in which the fictional regime would react to world events, especially if threatened with irrelevancy.

Kate Winslet is one of Hollywood’s most decorated and dynamic actresses, dazzling audiences with her honest and vulnerable performances for 30 years.
Thedark comedy seriesalso stars Matthias Schoenaerts as Corporal Herbert Zubak, Elena’s right-hand man of sorts, whose lack of importance somehow catapults him to her side. The chancellor’s husband is played by Guillaume Gallienne, while her right-hand woman and chief minister is portrayed by Andrea Riseborough. The U. S. Secretary of State, who walks a fine line between protecting American interests in the country while simultaneously appeasing the chancellor, is played by Martha Plimpton. Finally, Hugh Grant rounds out the cast as the Leader of the Opposition, whose imprisonment is the catalyst that ignites large-scale public protests throughout the country.

The Regimeconsists of six episodes and will almost certainly be another success for Winslet and the streaming platform. The actress previously garnered two Emmy wins and twoGolden Globes winsfor her acting after working with HBO on such shows asMare of EasttownandMildred Pierce. Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TVis a docuseries about the toxic culture that existed behind the scenes on some of the most iconic Nickelodeon children’s shows that aired inthe late 1990sand early 2000s. With producer, screenwriter, and actor Dan Schneider at the helm of the ship, the careers of a myriad of child actors were catapulted into the spotlight and inevitably became major stars. However, despite the success of some children, many were ultimately abused, and some faced harm from child predators. In an atmosphere rampant with sexism, racism, and inappropriate behavior between underage stars and the show’s crew, it’s no wonder so many previous employees of the Nickelodeon network are willing to come forward and tell their side of the story.
