Evan Rachel Wood,Josh Gad, andAnthony Carriganwill star inAlex Winter’s upcoming crime dramaThe Adults,Deadlinereports.The film will follow the story of Megan (Wood) and Nathan (Gad), siblings living in the present time, who find a dead, buried body in the parent’s basement. This discovery, according to the film’s synopsis, “sends them down a rabbit hold of crime and murder.” Director Winter, who began his career as an actor in the 1980s with appearances in films includingThe Lost BoysandBill &Ted’s Excellent Adventure, will also act in the film.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Evan, Josh and Anthony on this darkly comic crime drama, which takes a sly look at the challenges we all face today, trying to survive in the modern world,” Winter said in a statement.

The film is written by Michael M.B. Galvin, the novelist behindFat Kid Rules the WorldandFreak Talks About Sex,and their screen adaptations.Rocket Science will begin international sales during the European Film Market in Berlin. CAA Media Finance will represent the domestic sale while arranging the film’s financing. The film is produced by Winter, Many Rivers Productions' Scott Kroopf and Russell Hollander. Connie Tavel serves as executive producer.

Wood most recently starred as Madonna inWeird: The Al Yankovic Story.Notably,she starred in four seasons of HBO’s Emmy Award winningWestworld. Gad is well-known for voicing Olaf in Disney’sFrozenand his portrayal of LeFou in Disney’s live actionBeauty and the Beast. Recently, he’s appeared as a guest star on popular seriesThe BoysandCurb Your Enthusiasm. His film credits also includeThe Internship, Pixels, Little Monsters,andGhostbusters: Afterlife. Gad also appeared in Broadway’sThe Book of Mormon, earning a Grammy Award and a Tony Award nomination.
Since 2018, Carrigan has portrayed NoHo Hank on HBO’sBarry. Hiscritically acclaimed portrayalof the mobster has earned him two Emmy Nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. For the series, he is currently nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2021, he appeared inFatherhood, opposite Kevin Hart, Lil Rel Howery, and Paul Reiser.
Winter has been directing since 1984, with documentaries, including HBO’sShowbiz Kids, and feature films on his resume.
