The firstEnchantedfilm, starring Amy Adams, came to screens more than a decade ago in 2007. The narrative followed Adams, who in her role as princess Giselle, lands in a manhole in New York and goes on to fall in love with Robert Philip, a lawyer played by Patrick Dempsey. Despite the film parodying the fairy tale romance that many moviegoers are attuned to, the movie went on to become a massive success, becoming the 15th highest-grossing film for 2007.Enchantedis also regarded as the film which propelled Amy Adams to fame and made her a household name.
Although many expected Disney to follow the success of the first film with an immediate second, the official sequel toEnchantedwas released by Disney+ only in 2022. The film, titledDisenchanted,rather than focusing on a fairy tale narrative, explored the familial relationship between Giselle and her daughter Morgan. This is not to say that the film didn’t involve its fair portion of magic and evil queens, as Giselle uses her wand to create the fairy tale life she yearns for, and Malvina Monroe and Giselle’s own villainous side add the dash of evil. Similarly to its predecessor,Disenchantedtoo became a quick fan favorite. With the success of both films to back it up, many have wonderedif there may be anEnchanted 3.
Will There Be a Third Film?
Despite the potential for a third film existing, Disney has not provided official confirmation regarding whether they intend to continue with the franchise. Although unfortunate, a strong likelihood remains that there may not be a third film. With Disney presumably biding their time to accurately gauge the performance statistics ofDisenchantedbefore moving forward with the development of an additional film, it may take some time before a decision is reached.

More doubt regarding the possibility of a third film arises from the fact that the actors themselves may be unwilling to take on a role in a third movie. If the new film takes as much time as the sequel did, those who currently love the franchise may well have lost interest in the storyline. Present actors and actresses, despite being willing tostar inDisenchanted, may also have moved on from the franchise. However, giving fans a flicker of hope, Yvette Nicole Brown, who plays Rosaleen, hinted at the possibility of an addition to the franchise while replying to a comment onTwitter.

Focus on Andalasia
WithDisenchantedhaving wrapped up its loose ends quite tightly, there is little space to explore storylines based in Monroeville. After Giselle apologizes to Malvina, the two reconcile and Malvina even offers Giselle a spot on a school committee. Giselle, Morgan, and Robert also settle down into quiet family life with other residents of Monroeville, returning to their usual ways of life. Morgan even starts to become close with Malvina’s son Tyson after settling in at school. With everything off to a happy and neat ending, the conclusion ofDisenchanteddoesn’t leave any openings which hint at paths that a futureEnchanted 3could take.
Given this, if there were to be a third movie, one area which it could choose to focus on is Andalasia. Fans have expressed that they would like to see more of what happens with James Marsden as Prince Edward and Idina Menzel as Queen Nancy. A possible ogre rebellion involving Marsden’s and Menzel’s characters would also, no doubt, hold the interests of fans. With Menzel’s incredible singing capabilities, a focus on her and Andalasia would also bring about incredible musical opportunities. Moreover, being fully immersed in the Andalasian environment and the adventures the setting may hold is an exciting prospect thatEnchantedlovers can look forward to.
More Interesting Takes on Fairy Tale Tropes
The twist that theEnchantedfilms put on the traditional fairy tale tropes was one reason for many to fall in love with the films. Picking up on the nods to timeless Disney classics soon became a favorite pastime of those who watched the movies.Disenchanted,too, carries many Disney references, including an allusion to Snow White and Cinderella in the form of the wicked stepmother and Morgan’s dress being destroyed and then transformed into a beautiful blue gown.

As Robert, Giselle, and Morgansettle into life in Monroeville, filmmakers could come up with several tropes to spin as the family navigate their day-to-day life. Chances to put a new spin on classic Disney narratives exist in exploring a possible relationship between Morgan and Tyson, the tentatively new friendship between Malvina and Giselle, and even the connection between Morgan and her sister, Sofia. Assuming that Morgan is a grown adult by the time anEnchanted 3is released, it would also be interesting to see how she navigates her relationship with Andalasia.
Despite the potential for a third movie and what we’d like to see, at the time of writing, only our hopes and speculations for anEnchanted 3exist. With the producers or Disney not having given official confirmation regarding a new movie, the future path of the franchise remains murky. However, if the decision to go ahead withEnchanted 3is made, many would, no doubt, be over the moon.
