James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG. You guys know me, and I have very thick skin – and you can always count on me to be direct with my words. These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens.

After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally makeBlack Adam, I’m very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide. I will always look back on the fan reaction toBlack Adamwith tremendous gratitude, humility and love. We did great. To my very passionate and vocalBlack Adam/Super Hero genre fans – I love you, THANK YOU, and I will ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOU and do my best to deliver and entertain you.”

WillBlack AdamActually Return To the DCU?

Despite Johnson’s seemingly hopeful outlook forBlack Adamto make some kind of future appearance in the DC Universe, his message does sound like a sign off from the character. If Black Adam does return, it is clear that is it not going to be as the driving narrative force that he originally planned.

Black Adam’stheatrical release may not have delivered quite the kind of box office that many hoped, butits recent release on HBO Maxsaw the anti-hero immediately become the top movie on the platform. The win for the movie may be a small consolation, but once again suggests that there are many movies that fans would rather wait to see on the small screen than venturing out it cinemas.

However, fans of Johnson shouldn’t be too disheartened as the actor is already thundering into promotion for his upcomingApple TV+ movieRed One, and has plenty of other projects such as sequels toRed Notice, Jungle CruiseandJumanjiall fighting for his attention. Although the big DC dream may be all but over, the Dwayne Johnson bandwagon continues to roll on.
