Science fiction sequelDune: Part Twowas one of the most recent victims of the crisis that the film industry is going through, with Warner Bros. Pictures deciding to delay the release of the long-awaited sequel due to the current strikes. But that hasn’t stopped Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro from releasing a new version ofMonopolybased on the popular franchise.
Written by American author Frank Herbert and published in 1965, the firstDunenovel was an absolute success, leading Herbert to publish several more books:Dune Messiah,Children of Dune,God Emperor of Dune,Heretics of Dune,Chapterhouse: Dune, and the short storyThe Road to Dunewhich was part of a collection. Even after the writer’s death in 1986, the franchise continued to expand with other authors continuing his legacy.

ButDunehas managed to transcend beyond the books. In 1984, David Lynch first brought the story to the big screen, while John Harrison adapted the original trilogy into two miniseries in 2000 and 2003. In 2021, Denis Villeneuve presented the first part of his adaptation of the story, with the sequel now set to be released in March 2024. In addition,Dunehas reached the world of comics, graphic novels, video games, and board games, an area in which it will continue to grow soon.
Hasbro andLegendary Entertainmentconfirmed the released of a new version of Monopoly based on Herbert’s story and Villeneuve’s adaptation. In the game, for which the main setting will be the desert, players must acquire different properties, in addition to crossing paths with different characters such as Paul Atreides, Emperor Shaddam, Princess Irulan, and more.
Obviously, the game will include many other nods to the popular saga, such as the tokens used to move from one place to another on the board, or small changes to the names of places and cards to adapt them to the epic world ofDune.
