A lot can be said about first dates, but that takes on an added layer of problems in the first trailer forDrop,directed byHappy Death Day’sChristopher Landon. It’s already hard enough dealing with the awkwardness of a first date, but when you throw murder in the mix, datinghorrorstories take on a whole new meaning.
The premise puts an interesting spin on what can go wrong during a first date. Violet (Meghann Fahy) is a widowed mother who has decided to take the chance of going on her first date in years. Despite being nervous about meeting Henry (Brandon Sklenar), she is pleasantly surprised by his handsome good looks and his charm when she arrives at an upscale restaurant for their first date. Everything appears to be running smoothly, but soon terror takes over. This is from the creative mind ofHappy Death Day, after all.
Violet begins getting a series of anonymous photo drops to her phone which at first only irritate her until they eventually turn sinister whenshe is told to follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees by accessing her home security cameras will kill her son and her sister, who is there babysitting. If Violet doesn’t do what she’s told, her loved ones will die and the most demanding instruction she is tasked with is to kill her date, Henry. The footage builds up to a crazy climax that may show a bit too much, but it does more than enough to get the palms sweating. The film also stars Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson and Ed Weeks. Drop Looks Like Another Hit From Christopher Landon
Written by Jillian Jacobs (Fantasy Island) and Chris Roach (Non-Stop),Dropseems to be in line with some of Landon’s previous films, includingHappy Death Day,Happy Death Day 2U,Freaky, andWe Have a Ghost. The director is skilled at balancing tension with a bit of dark humor, andDropappears to have that in spades. The first look seems to have more terror than laughs, which is displayed during its fair share of tense moments in the trailer.Dropalso boasts a rising cast of actors currently making their mark in the industry with exciting new projects.
