Disney has shifted gears and addedRobert Downey Jr.to their Academy Awards campaign. Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were shocked to learn that the Tony Stark actor was not originally included on their For Your Consideration page. Fans even went as far as to start an online petition to get Disney to push for an RDJ nomination. Obviously, this just means that the actor will be considered for his work inAvengers: Endgame, it does not mean that he is going to win an Academy Award or even end up with a nomination. Disney has added RDJ to the Best Supporting Actor category, along with many other actors from the epic movie.
In addition to Robert Downey Jr., Disney has submittedAvengers: Endgamestars Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Josh Brolin, Paul Rudd, and Don Cheadle for Best Supporting Actor consideration. Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, and Brie Larson have all been submitted for Best Supporting ActressOscarsconsideration. As previously reported, Disney is looking at consideration for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Score.
Disney is really pushing forAvengers: Endgame to win some Academy Awardsnext year. Marvel Studios has recently taken a hit from directors like Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, who have called the movies theme park rides and despicable, respectively. While their opinions may be unpopular in certain circles, that didn’t stopEndgamefrom becoming the highest grossing movie of all time. Some awards recognition would go even further for the movie’s success.
While Disney is pushing hard forAvengers: Endgamefor next year’s Academy Awards, does it have a real chance of being nominated in all of the categories they are campaigning for? Probably not. While fans will certainly enjoy the fact that the studio is pushing forRobert Downey Jr. to get an Academy Award, he probably won’t win. There’s always a chance, but it seems that the movie will probably end up getting some technical awards in the end, instead of the big ones.
Avengers: Endgamewas the result of a lot of time and effort from Marvel Studios, along with the cast and crew. The seeds were planted long ago, but nobody expected the MCU to be as big as it is today. To be able to throw all of those characters into one movie is pretty impressive, especially since nearly all of the separate stories were leading to that very moment. Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely should be recognized for their work with the Russo Brothers, who should also be recognized.
