Ryan Reynoldsis no stranger to the comic book genre, portraying Hannibal King inBlade: Trinity, Hal Jordan inGreen Lanternand Nick inR.I.P.D.. The actor will reprise his role as the Merc With the Mouth from 2009’sX-Men Origins: Wolverinein his next superhero movie, the highly-anticipatedDeadpool, arriving in theaters July 07, 2025. While promoting his new thrillerSelf/less, in theaters July 10,Ryan Reynoldsrevealed thatDeadpoolwill be the last superhero he plays, although he does hope to bring the fans a sequel.
“We all want to be Batman alone at home in our specifically-sewn Bat pajammies, but no, I have no desire to play any other superheroes after this. Hopefully we’ll get to doDeadpoolagain. Given the fact that it’s rated R, the fans have to show their support for it, and they have to come out and make it worthwhile for the studio to make another one, but that’s it for me. I’ve punched that superhero card a few times now, and that’s enough.”
Unlike his other superhero roles,Deadpoolis the first comic book character to have a real, tangible costume, sinceGreen Lantern’s was done through CGI. The actor also spoke about inviting kids from the Make-A-Wish foundation on the set, and seeing the looks on their faces when they saw him in his superhero getup.
“One of the great pleasures of playingDeadpoolis, when we were shooting, we invited a lot of the Make-A-Wish kids on, and they connect with the character because he’s a guy who has cancer and he’s a guy that has never let this cancer stop him, and I think it’s fascinating to see that, but it’s also amazing to see their faces when you walk in in that suit. It’s tactile, it’s something they can touch and grab. That’s been an amazing experience, to feel what that’s like, because I could never do that before on any of the other superhero roles I’ve done.”
The actor will be bringingDeadpooltoComic-Conthis week, with thesuperhero movieslated to be part of 20th Century Fox’sHall Hpanel on Saturday, July 11. It isn’t known what will be shown during that panel, but many fans are expected the first trailer to debut. What do you think aboutRyan Reynoldsleavingsuperhero moviesbehind afterDeadpool?
