We just might get aDawson’s Creekreboot as original series star Mary-Margaret Humes says there’s a “strong possibility” that it’ll happen. Scheduled to debut today on the ATX TV YouTube Channel, Humes has participated with several other classic sitcom stars for theMother Knows Best: A Look at ’90s TV Momspanel. A sneak peek of the panel featuring Humes was released by People ahead of the panel’s premiere.
In the clip, Humes addresses the possibility of aDawson’s Creekrevival, referring to it as the “6$ million question.” Adding that she’s been getting asked that question about every single day of her life, Humes divulges that there are ongoing discussions with her fellow cast members about actually bringing back the series with new episodes. In fact, Humes is so hopeful that a revival will happen that she’s written nearly 200 pages worth of material for the concept. From the panel:
“There has been a secret text message going around among all we actors… Katie Holmes and I have talked about it extensively.James Van Der Beekand I have talked about it. I actually wrote like, 190 pages of an idea for a crossover to a reboot. Whether it goes anywhere, I don’t know. But there’s certainly a lot of buzz about it.”
At this point, Humes suggests that the holdup with rebootingDawson’s Creekis the argument that the series was simply a product of its time. With the advent of social media and with how much things have changed foryoung people in America, there’s a certain feeling that a series likeDawson’s Creekjust wouldn’t work as well today. To that, Humes disagrees, feeling that the cast can simply pick back up right from where they left off.
“What they have expressed is our show was so much simpler thanwhat television is now, again because of social media. And it’s like, you can actually do a show and not make any references to social media. We can pick up where we left off, let that element be there but not be so predominant… As far as I know - personal information from the kids - there’s a strong possibility [that the reboot will happen]. I’d like to keep that hope alive for everybody, because the fans are clamoring for it and they want to live a simpler life like we had back in 1998.”
Created by Kevin Williamson,Dawson’s Creekran for six seasons between 1998 and 2003. Set in thefictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts, the series follows wannabe filmmaker Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek), his best friend Joey (Katie Holmes), close friend Pacey (Joshua Jackson), and new girl next door Jen (Michelle Williams). Humes also starred as Dawson’s mother Gail alongside John Wesley Shipp as Mitch Leery, Dawson’s father. Nina Repeta, Kerr Smith, Meredith Monroe, and Busy Philipps also starred.
