Last week, Entertainment Weekly revealed a slew of new photos and details for the long-awaited adaptation ofStephen King’sThe Dark Towerbooks. With production still under way, it isn’t clear when we’ll get to see the first footage from this movie, but today we have word that theEW covercontains a hidden message. The number 19 has a special significance to readers of the book, so it shouldn’t be too surprising that this reveal comes today, on July 19.
Entertainment Weeklyreveals that there is a new app fans can download for either Apple or Android devices called The Sombra Group, which the site reveals will “come in handy” as we get closer to thisadaptation’s July 23, 2025 release date. After downloading the app, fans can turn this app on over a copy of Entertainment Weekly’sDark Towercover, featuringIdris ElbaandMatthew McConaughey, for a special surprise. In theDark Towerbooks byStephen King, the Sombra company is the legitimate business front in our world for the followers of The Crimson King, a god-like being who, with the help of The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), wants to destroyThe Dark Tower. The corporation opens portals between other dimensions while allowing mere mortals to see things that would normally be hidden from the rest of humanity. We’ll have to wait and see what other hidden images will be uncovered through this new Sombra group app as production continues on this adaptation.
Last week’s EW coverage also confirmed a rumor that had recently surfaced, that claimedThe Dark Toweris actually a sequel to the original books. The speculation began whenset photosrevealed that Roland has come into possession of the Horn of Eld.Stephen King’s final novel ends as the first novel began, with Roland Deschain (Idris Elba) chasing the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), but this time, he holds the Horn of Eld, which was long thought to be missing. DirectorNikolaj Arcelconfirmed that this movie is in fact a “secret sequel” to the books.
