The reboot of any franchise brings with it the question of which stars from the original movie or TV show will be making an appearance in a cameo role. When it comes to the upcoming TV reboot ofHarry Potter, many fans have asked whether the original boy wizard himself,Daniel Radcliffe, will be dropping in for a guest appearance. However, it seems that the actor doesn’t think it is particularly good idea.
Having played the franchise lead across eight movies, and now moved on to become a highly praised movie star always from the role that made him famous, it would maybe not be surprising for the actor to want to keep his distance from the world of wizards and horcruxes. It seems that his reason for not wanting to cameo in the series is more about how strange it would feel, and how unnecessary it could be. He recently toldDeadline’s The Actor’s Side:

“I don’t think so, no. Certainly from everything that I’ve read about the series, they’re starting fresh and would probably be weird to have me pop in.”
Of course, alongside his reasoning is the continuing issue aroundJ.K. Rowling’s continued divisive stance on transgender issues, which has seem many people on social media calling for a complete boycott of the series when it does finally arrive. Radcliffe himself has been critical of some of the author’s previous comments, and perhaps that too could be a strong reason for him not wanting to make an appearing in any kind of future Harry Potter project.

Do We Need a Harry Potter TV Series?
The debate over whether it is too soon to be rebooting a franchise that ended just over a decade ago is something that has already been a hot topic, and will continue to split opinion up to the point the series airs. Then the conversation will undoubtedly turn to direct comparisons with the original movie franchise.
While there are some who believe the Potter franchise should not be remade, whether it is due to the issues with Rowling or simply that the movies are enough for them, there are those who have read the books and want to seea more fleshed out story being told. This is something that is particularly true of the early movies in the saga in particular, which left out large chunks of the story and even some characters.
In the early announcement of the show’s development, it was revealed that each season will focus on one book initially. This means that rather than the roughly 2-hours long movie that most of the novels were turned into – with the exception of the two-partHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows– each book will end up with around 6-8 hours dedicated to them. Is there enough story to carry that runtime, or will it seem like a lot of padding to a tale than was told well enough in shorter movie form? That is something we will find out in time, but that is still a few years away.
