Curb Your Enthusiasmhas just received two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series (Larry David) and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Debuting on HBO in 2001 and presenting 90 episodes to date,Curb Your EnthusiasmstarsSeinfeldco-creatorLarry David as an over-the-top version of himselfin an unsparing but tongue-in-cheek depiction of his fictionalized life. Here’s what Casey Bloys, president, HBO programming, had to say in his statement.
“We are thrilled that Larry will be back with his uniquely acerbic wit and comedic sensibility.”
The announcement that production will begin this coming spring is quite surprising, since there is often a gap of many years between seasons. HBO confirmedCurb Your Enthusiasm Season 9back in June 2016, five years after Season 8 had aired on the network. There were also two-year gaps between Season 7 and Season 8, Season 6 and Season 7 and Season 5 and Season 6, and this will be the first time there will be back-to-back seasons in consecutive years since Season 5. This renewal comes after quite the interesting season that was slightly marred by a cyber attack.
Back in August, hackers leaked episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm, along with scripts forGame of Thronesand episodes ofBallersandRoom 104as part of a widespread cyber attack on the network. The hackers reportedly stole over 1.5 terrabytes of data, demanding $6 million in bitcoin to prevent any further leaks. The leaks came a few weeks before the show was slated to premiere on HBO, although no further episodes were leaked before their air dates.
Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 9 started shooting in November 2016, bringing back series veterans Jeff Garlin, Susie Essman, J.B. Smoove, Cheryl Hines, Richard Lewis, Bob Einstein, Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.Curb Your Enthusiasmwas created by Larry David; executive produced by Larry David, Jeff Garlin and Jeff Schaffer. There has also been talk of a potentialCurb Your Enthusiasmmovie, but that has never been confirmed, and it remains unclear ifHBOor Larry David have any plans for a movie in place.
