The CW has released a new trailer forCrisis on Infinite Earths. This will serve as 2019’s big ArrowVerse crossover and follows in the footsteps as last year’sElseworlds, which was rather ambitious. Be that as it may, it appears this little corner of the DC universe has outdone itself this time around, as worlds are going to collide as the fight for the multiverse unfolds. If nothing else, this looks like it’s going to be a massive and action-packed adventure.
As we see in the trailer, a villain known as the Anti-Monitor is trying to wipe out existence across the multiverse, leaving the heroes of theArrowVerseto try and save what they can. This leads to quite a few incredible cameos from throughout DC’s history. We seecharacters from Smallville, 90s DC shows and even Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy playing Bruce Wayne in the flesh for the first time ever. And that’s not even the half of it. We’ve also got Brandon Routh suiting up as Superman again for the first time sinceSuperman Returnsand so much more.
There are other items of note here. For one, this is the first time thatBlack Lightningis being brought into the larger universe, which is something fans have been calling for. We also get a tease ofStephen Amell’s Oliver Queenbeing rather heroic, possibly at his own peril. WithArrowending after this season, there is no guarantee that he makes it out of this thing alive. With a crossover this big, the stakes need to be big and it seems likely that a hero or two will fall before it’s all said and done.
Crisis on Infinite Earthsis adapted from the famous crossover of the same name. Published in 1985, the crossover went on to become one of the most cherished in the history of DC Comics. The story was written by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by George Perez and centers on a villain namedAnti-Monitor, the reverse of The Monitor, who we met during last year’sElseworldsevent. The Anti-Monitor aims to destroy all life across the multiverse. His quest sees him come up against many of DC’s most famous heroes. The event is notable for including the deaths of both The Flash and Supergirl. Again, big stakes here.
The five-part event spans acrossSupergirl,Batwoman,The Flash,ArrowandLegends of Tomorrow. Things kick off with Part 1 onSupergirlthis Sunday, December 8.Batwomanwill keep the ball rolling with Part 2 on Monday, December 9 beforeThe Flashbrings us Part 3 on Tuesday, December 10. Fans will then have to wait more than a month for the two-part finale, which arrives on Tuesday, January 14.
