Following his various victories at this year’s Academy Awards, everyone has been left wondering whatOppenheimerdirectorChristopher Nolanwill do next. While there are rumors floating around that he could helm the next James Bond outing, a recent report fromVarietyhas claimed that Nolan’s next movie will be based on the 1967 British television series,The Prisoner.
Check out what the report had to say below.
“Some say it will be a remake of the mystery-thriller “The Prisoner,” based on the 1960s TV series created by and starring Patrick McGoohan, which Nolan was attached to in 2009. But the sci-fi project vanished from Nolan’s dance card that same year, when AMC released its own “The Prisoners,” a six-part miniseries led by Jim Caviezel as the ill-fated agent Number Six alongside Ian McKellen and Ruth Wilson. Others say he will begin writing a new screenplay now that the awards season is behind him.”
As explained in the report, a big screen reboot ofThe Prisonerwas something that Nolan was interested in doing back in 2009 (with some reports going back as far as 2006). However, when a TV series was commissioned instead, thisput an end to the director’s aspirations. At least, it did then. Now that time has passed, and Nolan’s success gives him carte blanche to make whatever he wants, will the filmmaker return to give new life toThe Prisoner?

The Prisoner
For those unaware,The Prisonerwas created by and stars Patrick McGoohan as the mysterious Number Six, an unnamed British intelligence agent who, after resigning from his highly secretive position, is abducted and imprisoned in a mysterious coastal village. Combining science fiction, mystery, psychological drama, and spy action, as well as a floating white balloon security system called Rover,The Prisonercertainly sounds like something Nolan could work wonders with. Especially when you consider the consistent philosophical themes of his films, which you can explore in our video below:

“I have so many people to thank. The most incredible cast, Matt Damon, Robert, Emily, Florence, just so many others, all at the top of their game, led by the incredible Cillian Murphy… a crew, some of whom have been awarded tonight. I can’t say enough about the incredible crew that we got together on this film. Thank you to Chuck Roven for putting the book in my hands… The incredible Emma Thomas, producer of all our films and all of our children. I love you. To the academy, just to say movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. I mean, imagine being there 100 years into painting or theater. We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to know that you think that I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me.”
