The Bride of Frankenstein
The Bride Is Not the Only Movie Based on Mary Shelley’s Novel in the the Works
The Brideis not the only movie based on Mary Shelley’s seminal novel in the pipeline. Academy Award-winning director Guillermo del Toro is finally working on bringing his long-gestating adaptation to life on the big screen as well. The project will feature an all-star cast led by Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankensteinand Jacob Elordi as The Monster. del Toro’sFrankensteinwill also star Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, and Charles Dance.
The movie is expected to be a retelling of the iconic novel, with the filmmaker making changes rather than making a straightforward adaptation of the source material. With this in mind, the current logline for Guillermo del Toro’sFrankensteinreads:
“Set in Easter Europe in the 19th Century, the story of Dr. Pretorious, who needs to track down Frankenstein’s monster- who is believed to have died in a fire forty years before–to continue the experiments of Dr. Frankenstein”
The filmmaker has been working towards bringinghis version ofFrankensteinto screens for decades now, with del Toro previously saying…
“I’m doing Frankenstein. We’re working on it, we start shooting on it in February. It’s a movie I’ve been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein and I had an epiphany and is basically a movie that requires a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago, 20 years ago and now I’m brave or crazy enough or something and we’re going to tackle it.”
