Over the past few days,Chris Hemsworthhas been active on social media whileThor: Ragnarokcontinues production, with the actor sharing photos and videos from the set at Village Roadshow Studios in Australia. We still haven’t gotten a look at the actor in costume yet, or even seen his iconic hammer Mjolnir, although the actor’s photo yesterday showed him holding up a regular toolbox hammer. Today we get our first look at Mjolnir from the set, as part of an epic prankChris Hemsworthpulled on directorTaika Waititi.
Taika Waititishared a new photo onTwitterthat showed Mjolnir resting atop the director’s toilet. Obviously, if this were the “real” Mjolnir, only Thor himself could lift it off the toilet, hence the gag. Still, this is the first time we’ve seen Mjolnir on the set, which is interesting since there have been rumors that Thor’s mighty weapon may actually be destroyed in this sequel.
Early this year,Cate Blanchettwas rumored to play Marvel Comics villain Hela, which was ultimately confirmed by Marvel. The initial report claimed she is joining forces with Thor’s villainous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), as Hela banishes Thor from Asgard while destroying his iconic hammer Mjolnir. Naturally, that was never confirmed, but it was believed that this banishment is what leads Thor to go on a “cosmic road trip” withMark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Other rumors followed which claimed that, after his banishment from Asgard, Thor winds up on a gladiator planet, where he’s forced to fight the current champion, Hulk.
Of course, that rumor about Mjolnir being destroyed has not yet been verified, and we likely won’t get any confirmation in the near future. All we do know for sure is that Thor, Hulk andLokiwill be joined by a few new characters, includingCate Blanchett’s Hela,Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster,Karl Urban’s Skurge andTessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.Idris ElbaandAnthony Hopkinsare also set to return as Heimdall and Odin, respectively.
