With just a month and a half left untilCaptain America: Civil Warhits theaters, anticipation for this superhero adventure is higher than ever, thanks in part to thenew trailerthat debuted just last week. This footage gave us our first official look at the newSpider-Man(Tom Holland), who will be fighting alongside Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and his team. While it isn’t known if another trailer will be released between now and the May 6 release date, directorsJoe RussoandAnthony Russoposted a live video from theirFacebookpage last night, which teases a very important scene from the movie.
The video was posted while the directors were finalizing their cut of the movie on the mix stage, withJoe Russointroducing other members of their team, including executive producersVictoria Alonso, Nate Moore and the filmmaker’s brother and directorial partner,Anthony Russo.Joe Russosaid that they only have a week and a half of post-production work left before they deliver the final cut toMarvel. But the most revealing part of this video is the actual scene from the movie playing in the background.
The scene in question featuresWilliam Hurt’s General Thaddeus Ross assembling several of theAvengersto break down the new rules and regulations set forth by the Sokovia Accords. While we can only hear bits and pieces of the dialogue overJoe Russo, we can see Avengers like Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Vision (Paul Bettany), who is wearing a tuxedo, and War Machine (Don Cheadle). These heroes are listening to Ross tell them they are no longer a private organization anymore. While we don’t know for sure when this scene in the movie takes place, it’s likely towards the beginning, and it could be one of the pivotal moments that forces these heroes to take sides against each other.
Judging by the success of the latest trailer,Captain America: Civil Warcould be the biggest movie yet in theMarvel Cinematic Universe. The trailer was viewed over 100 million times in the first 24 hours, setting a new Marvel record but falling short of the all-time record held byStar Wars: The Force Awakens. We haven’t heard about any early box office tracking yet, but given how widely the trailer was viewed, it’s possible the movie could come close to breakingStar Wars: The Force Awakens' opening weekend box office record of $247.9 million.
