The reboot ofBuffy The Vampire Slayerhas finally found its new lead inStar Wars: Skeleton Crewand Stephen King’sFirestarteractressRyan Kiera Armstrong.
While the new show has yet to receive a title, and Armstrong’s character’s name has not yet been revealed, she will appearalongside original vampire slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar, who is reprising her role as Buffy Summers in the new take on the iconic property. Chloé Zhao is directing the pilot episode, which is penned by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. Making the announcement, Gellar said:
“I want to introduce you to [Ryan Kiera Armstrong]. From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence , and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room. Welcome to#NewSunnydale#btvs”
Gellar also recorded a video of her breaking the news to 15-year-old Armstrong that she got the part.
“I’m so honored, thank you for trusting me,” Armstrong said, crying as Gellar told her the news. Lilla and Nora Zuckerman had their own words of praise for the young star, using some well-worn words from Buffy’s universe to add their hype to the youngster’s casting. They said:
“We are so overjoyed to have found this generation’s slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong, she absolutely blew us away — there is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one."
