It’s been a rollercoaster ride of emotion for fans of the hit series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It was announced earlier in the week thatFox canceled the showalong withThe Last Man on Earth,The Mick,The Exorcist, andLucifer, stunning fans. Social media exploded when the news hit thatBrooklyn Nine-Ninewas canceled, and some heavy hitters came out to voice their love of the show. Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda took to social media to state that he only watches four things on TV andBrooklyn Nine-Nineis one of them, begging for someone to renew it. Now, NBC has done just that and those fans, including Miranda, are ecstatic.
NBC took to Twitter this morning to simply say, “We got your Six! #Brooklyn99 is officially coming to NBC!“Brooklyn Nine-Nineis now back where it began with NBC officially. Robert Greenblatt, chairman ofNBC Entertainmentalso released a statement regarding the matter. He admitted that he had always regretted the decision to sell the show to Fox. He had this to say.
“Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home. Mike Schur, Dan Goor andAndy Samberg grew up on NBC, and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best-cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy lineup. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!”
When it was first announced thatBrooklyn Nine-Ninehad been cancelled, rumors spread that Hulu or another platform was going to pick up the sitcom, but those proved to be false, which was another blow for all of the fans in such a short amount of time. However, out of everybody reeling from the news, it was directorGuillermo del Torowho kept the faith alive that somebody would come along and pick up the sixth season ofBrooklyn Nine-Nine. The director wrote a passionate tweet about the hit show. He explains.
“Brooklyn Nine-Ninehas given us fully human characters, beautiful, powerful, flawed, vulnerable, majestic… In whichever form, B99 must return. It will. And I will be there to watch. And, it is my hope that I hope that, this time, a lot more people do too.”
Dan Goor, who is the co-creator ofBrooklyn Nine-Ninealsotook to social mediato thank fans for their support, both when the show was canceled, and when it was renewed. Goor stated that it meant the world to him and the rest of the cast and crew to see such an intense show of support through social media, only to turn around and tweet celebration after it had been announced that NBC picked upBrooklyn Nine-Nine. Dan Goor then thanked who he called the “greatest fans in history.”
Brooklyn Nine-Ninestar Andy Sandberg also took to social media to share his gratitude with the fans. Fans of the show were relatively quiet before all of this news broke, but it is evident that it has many, many fans from all walks of life that appreciate the sitcom.
