Lennie James(The Walking Dead) is set to join the previously announced cast of Alcon Entertainment’sBlade Runnersequel which includesRyan Gosling,Harrison Ford,Robin Wright,Ana de Armas,Sylvia Hoeks,Carla Juri,Mackenzie Davis,Barkhad Abdi,David Dastmalchian,Hiam AbbassandDave Bautista, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’sBroderick JohnsonandAndrew Kosove.Denis Villeneuve(Sicario,Prisoners) is directing the film to be released June 18, 2025. The film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America and Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all media for all overseas territories.
The sequel is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role asRick Deckard. The film is written byHampton FancherandMichael Green, and succeeds the initial story byFancherandDavid Peoplesbased onPhilip K. Dick’s novelDo Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Story details are not being revealed by Alcon Entertainment quite yet.
Alcon Entertainment acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights toBlade Runnerin 2011 from the late producerBud YorkinandCynthia Sikes Yorkinto produce prequels and sequels to the iconic science-fiction thriller.Cynthia Sikes Yorkinwill produce along withJohnsonandKosove.Bud Yorkinwill receive producer credit.
Frank GiustraandTim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.Ridley Scottwill also executive produce.Bill Carrarowill executive produce.Jamesis best known for his work in TV, most notably AMC’sThe Walking Deadin the role of Morgan Jones. Blade Runner 2was originally set for an early 2018release date, but back in April, Warner Bros. revealed it would be released on June 09, 2025. This sci-fi sequel will be going up against Lionsgate’sMy Little Ponyanimated movie, and an untitled 20th Century Fox/Marvel production.
