With the 100th birthday ofBetty Whitecoming up next month, the veteran actress shared some of her secrets to staying happy and healthy. Set to grace the cover ofPeople, White spoke with the magazine about her upcoming birthday and how it feels to be turning 100. For her part, theGolden Girlsstar simply feels that she’s “lucky” to be where she’s at in life, clearly maintaining her lifelong positivity as a self-described “cockeyed optimist.”

“I’m so lucky to be in such good health and feel so good at this age. It’s amazing,” White said, crediting her mother for her upbeat nature. “I got it from my mom, and that never changed. I always find the positive.”

The 99-year-old also has a dietary tip for what’s helping her be so healthy, and it’s probably not what you’d think. She jokes, “I try to avoid anything green. I think it’s working.”

White’s People issue also includes stories about the actress shared by those who’ve worked with her over the years. Of doing whatever was asked of her, Carol Burnett said, “She’d come on my show, [The Carol Burnett Show], and if there was a tinge of risqué humor in one of our sketches, she’d roll with it and make it even funnier and add a little wink to show that she was thinking of something sexy. She’s not a stand-up. She’s not a jokester. It’s the way she can twist a line to get a laugh.”

“Timing isn’t easy in comedy, because you have to navigate other people’s timing. Betty pivots like I have never seen, making it look seamless,” says Sandra Bullock, whoco-starred with White and Ryan Reynolds inThe Proposal. “The rest of us just remain silent and pray we’re not cut out of the scene.”

Of White’s upcoming birthday, Bullock said she hopes her friend will embrace it “the same way she has celebrated every day of her life with humor, kindness and a vodka on ice, toasting to the fact that she’s a badass who has left us all in the dust.”

There’s no arguing with that. Betty White is universally beloved and has been for decades. As a fan favorite on shows likeThe Golden GirlsandHot in Cleveland, White has garnered great acclaim with her comedic portrayals. While she’s fast approaching 100, she also hasn’t intended to retire, planning to film another holiday movie for Lifetime. In the untitled Christmas movie, White would playa mysterious woman who helps Santa Claus impersonators with their training. It was originally to release last year but the pandemic delayed the project.

Next month, a celebration of White’s life and career will be highlighted on the big screen. Fathom Events is hosting a one day only event dubbedBetty White: 100 Years Young — A Birthday Celebration. It will be playing in theaters on Jun 22, 2025, the day the legend officially turns 100 years old. However she chooses to celebrate at home, which will probably be with her beloved animal companions, let’s hope her 100th is the best birthday yet for Betty White.
