A24 Studios are back at it again, teaming with Netflix to create this original dark comedy series. This show stars Ali Wong, whoplays Amy Lau, and Steven Yeun, who plays Danny Cho. Danny and Amy are two strangers whose lives intertwine during a road rage incident. These two characters are polar opposites in both their livelihoods and personalities. The beef, no pun intended, between them starts to consume them as their lives and relationships become more and more affected as their grudge increases. Transatlantic (Apr. 7)

This Netflix originalperiod drama serieswill tell a true story that happened in the 1940s during World War 2. A journalist named Varian Fry formed the Emergency Rescue Committee with an American heiress, Mary Jayne Gold. Their goal was to help artists and writers flee from the Nazis in France and immigrate to the United States.Transatlantictakes inspirationfrom both this true story and Julie Orringer’s 2019 novelThe Flight Portfolio, which is a fictionalization of the Emergency Rescue Committee, Fry, and his adventures. This period drama series is an excellent way of reintroducing us to one of the most horrid times in our history but from a different perspective. Peeking into our history helps us grasp where we are now. And seeing an event that most history books don’t discuss seems enlightening and entertaining.

Florida Man (Apr. 13)

We all know of the Florida Man. It started as a recurring meme in 2013 about news articles and broadcasts of men in Florida doing strange crimes or activities. What began as a meme turned into various forms of entertainment during the past decade. Now we are getting an original Netflix series in April, appropriately titledFlorida Man. The story is about an ex-police officer named Mike Valentine, who is returning to his home state Florida in search of a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend. What should be a fairly easy job turns into a “wildly spiraling journey into buried family secrets, and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong,” as the official logline for the show says. Although this will be a crime drama, there is supposed to be comedy throughout the show. Maybe Mike will have a run-in with other Florida men from the past new articles or memes as sort of cameos.

For those who may not know, this series is about two best friends named Kate and Tully. They have been friends since they were teenagers and up to their 40s, supporting each other through good and bad times.
