In the adaptation, Mulroney portrays Steve, the fiancé of Violet’s youngest daughter Karen (Juliette Lewis) who is a seedy Florida businessman with a deplorable true nature. Though some critics felt the film was far too dark in comparison to its original source, it nonetheless earned two Oscar nominations and the cast received the Ensemble of the Year Award at the Hollywood Film Festival.

Dermot Mulroney joined the fifth season of the acclaimed Showtime dramedy seriesShameless, appearing as recovering heroin addict and restaurant owner Sean Pierce who becomes a major love interest for eldest Gallagher sibling Fiona (Emmy Rossum).
