Last week,Jeff Bewkes, the CEO of Warner Bros.' parent company Time Warner, revealed thatBen Affleck’sBatman rebootis about a year and a half out from being released, meaning it would roughly hit theaters in the spring of 2018. While doing press for his new thrillerThe Accountant, writer-director-starBen Affleckrevealed that the movie will be calledThe Batmanfor now. Here’s what he had to say, while hinting that he could change the title at some point.
“The movie I think is going to be calledThe Batman. At least that’s what we’re going with right now. I might change it. That’s about all I got right now. We’re working on the script, the script is going well, I’m really excited about it. I assure you that when anything develops, you’ll hear about it.”
You may recall that, earlier this year,Ben Affleck’s agent, CAA’sPatrick Whitesell, revealed that his client had already written the script for thisBatman movie, but it seems that there is still work to be done. The actor/filmmaker wouldn’t shed any further light on the project in his interview withAssociated Press. We did recently learn who will portray the movie’s main villain, though.
We reported earlier this month thatJoe Manganiellohas signed on to playDeathstroke, the main villain inThe Batman.Ben Affleckhimself had previously teased that Deathstroke may be introduced in the upcomingJustice Leaguemovie, after posting a brief video from the set that clearly shows Deathstroke, although we didn’t know at the time who would be playing the character.Zack Snyderalso released a photo where he’s seen working on storyboards that include Deathstroke.
Ben Affleckwill directThe Batmanfrom a script he is co-writing withGeoff Johns, who was recently named the head of Warner Bros.' DC Films banner. There have been rumors thatThe Batmanwill feature several of the villains from the DC Comics' rogues gallery, but none of these characters have been confirmed yet. Another rumor claimed that the movie will open with a massiveprison breakat Arkham Asylum, but that has yet to be confirmed either. Take a look at the new video interview withBen Affleckwhere he confirmsThe Batmantitle.
