People running around in tights and capes will always feel like acomic book, no matter how seriously the filmmakers come at the material. But apparently all cartoonish aspects have been drained fromBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The wayJesse Eisenbergmakes it sound,DC Comics and Warner Bros.' ‘No Jokes’ policy was kept in tact for their latest big screen adventure. This will be a straight up adventure drama. And according to the man behind the new Lex Luthor, that makes it an exceptional entry in the genre.
Speaking withTodayto promote his new book of short stories ‘Bream Gives Me Hiccups’, talk eventually turned toBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Jesse Eisenberg has had to run some intel as of late, after comparing Comic-Con to ‘some kind of Genocide’. He’s also had to contend withMichael Shannon’s recent comments, which certainly put a very cartoonish notion at play when he suggested his deceased character General Zod will be returning with ‘Flippers for hands’. Hoping to curb any more Flipper Hand business, Jesse Eisenberg had this to say about Dawn of Justice, praising every aspect of it.
“It’s just the most incredible character. It was written by this guy Chris Terrio, this is his next movie after Argo, who is just this brilliant writer of characters. So this movie is not a cartoonish superhero movie, it’s this very serious, well-acted, well-written, well-directed movie. It’s really phenomenal.”
Jesse Eisenberg is still keeping the full extent of Lex Luthor’s involvement in Batman v Superman a mystery. He won’t reveal too much just yet. And that’s probably for the better. Also running intel onMichael Shannon’s made up stories about his ‘flipper hands’ this week isJason Momoa. As Aquaman, he may have been most affected. Some people already see Aquaman as a character that can’t quite be taken seriously in such a dark comic book movie as this. About that, the actor also implied that DC Comics ‘no jokes’ rule will be firmly in place whenBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicedrops in spring of next year.
“I can’t see busting out a bunch of jokes, I don’t think it will be like that….(The jokes) are cute and funny, there’s a bunch of jokes about him and it’s like, let’s wait. Let’s just wait a little bit and then we can make jokes.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice certainly doesn’t sound like all fun and games.
