Stranger Thingswas easily one of the biggest shows to debut last year. Netflix doesn’t release any kind of ratings reports, but just based on the amount of internet love for the show, it is clear thatStranger Thingsis a resounding success. With season 2 currently in production, there are many questions looming. One that keeps coming up is whether or not Barb is actually dead. According toMillie Bobby Brown, she is most definitely dead.
During the opening number at the Golden Globes last night, theStranger Thingscast, includingGaten Matarazzo,Caleb McLaughlin,Finn WolfhardandMillie Bobby Brownwho plays eleven on the show, showed up halfway through to declare that Barb is still alive. While that helped make the tribute toLa La Landall the more entertaining, it turned out not to be true.Entertainment Weeklycaught up with the actress following the show to ask if there was any truth to what was said in the opening to the show and she made it clear, there wasn’t.
“No, she’s not alive!”
So there you have it, Barb fans. Unfortunately spoilersShannon Purser’s beloved character met her fate at the hands (and tooth filled mouth) of theDemogorgonfairly early on in the first season ofStranger Things. Still, when she showed up during the Golden Globes opening bit last night surrounded by a bunch of costumed Barbs doing a synchronized swimming routine, fans had some hope she would maybe return. But after whatMillie Bobby Brownsaid, coupled with what creatorsMattandRuss Dufferhad to say in an interview with IGN several months ago when asked if Barb could return forStranger Thingsseason 2, it is clear; Barb is very dead.
“I can’t see it happening. ButBarbwill not be forgotten. We’ll make sure there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it. It’s not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’ Season One actually takes place over the course of six or seven days - it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”
Not a lot is known in terms of specifics aboutStranger Things Season 2, but we do know that it will be 9 episodes instead of 8 and that it will be coming sometime next year. The show is currently in production and will hopefully air sooner rather than later, butNetflixhas yet to announce an official release date. Granted, Netflix will probably want to capitalize on the feverish desire for the show while they can, so they won’t likely make us wait any longer than they have to. One thing we do know is that Barb most definitely won’t be part of it. You can check out the opening number from the Golden Globes for yourself below, in case you missed it.
