Miller’s book Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany is being adapted for the small screen, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s Playtone taking the project to Apple. The series will finish off Tom Hanks and Steve Spielberg’s World War II trilogy that started withBand of Brothersand continued withThe Pacific.
American bomber boys are at the center of this story, with the book following them into war and straight to Hitler’s doorstep. This is the first TV show greenlit by Apple, now serving as a studio as they enter their own streaming war with the likes of Netflix and Amazon. They will continue to now produce their own content.Masters of the Airwill reportedly cost upwards of $200 million to make.
Spielberg, Hanks and Goetzmanare executive producing alongside Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, and Playtone’s Steven Shareshian as co-executive producers.Band of Brothersalumnus John Orloff and Graham Yost will write the series, as well as serve as co-executive producers.
Masters of the Airwas original developed at HBO by Spielberg, Hanks & Goetzman, which previously served as home to the first two installments in this Trilogy series.
