Cameras are rolling onBad Boys 4. The action movie sequel brings backWill Smithalongside franchise co-star Martin Lawrence, and production is currently ramping up on the project in Atlanta. A pair of new set images, which you can see atTMZ, reveal our first look at Smith back in character as Detective Mike Lowrey. In both photos, Smith, with Mike’s familiar goatee, looks to be all smiles as he converses with others on the set. Clearly, Smith is feeling good to be back to work with one of his first major projects to start filming after the infamous Oscars slap that dominated the headlines last year.
While the film was shot prior to the Oscars incident, Smith’s acclaimed movieEmancipationwas released this past December, a sign that the controversy leveled against the actor was starting to subside. By February, Smith announced in an Instagram video alongside Lawrence thatBad Boys 4was officially in pre-production. In the video, the actors joked that they should have saved the third installment’s title,Bad Boys for Life, forBad Boys 4, thoughthey were happy to announce the projectregardless.
“We shouldn’t have called it that,” Smith said. “But, this isBad Boys 4, it’s official.”

It was just recently revealed that Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy,Euphoria) had been cast to play the villain inBad Boys 4. His casting follows reports that the sequel will featureBad Boys for Lifeactors Vanessa Hudgens, Paola Nunez, and Alexander Ludwig reprising their roles. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are back to direct using a screenplay fromBad Boys for Lifeco-writer Chris Bremner.
Plot details haven’t yet been revealed for the movie. The franchise began in 1995 with the originalBad Boys, which followed detectives Mike Lowrey (Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) looking to find $100 million worth of heroin. 2003’sBad Boys IIhad Mike and Marcus investigating ecstasy sales and a dangerous drug kingpin in Miami. The 2020 threequelBad Boys for Lifehas the buddy cops teaming up with a special tactical squad called AMMO to fight back against a vengeful cartel who wants them dead.
Bad Boys 4does not yet have an official release date at this time.
