Marvel fatigue is real? Someone forgot to tell the internet. While James Gunn chose to reveal hisSupermancast through BlueSky post replies and other social media drip-feeding comments, Marvel Studios took a completely unprecedented approach to revealing the main cast forAvengers: Doomsdaywith a near-all-day event that had millions of people watching a set of director’s chairs in ridiculous volumes.
While some have called it self-indulgent, others arrogant, and yet others ingenious, one thing that cannot be denied is that the stunt was able to break records and become one of the most talked-about things on social media for not only the five-hour 27 minute runtime, but pretty much the whole day afterward. So just how big a deal was the live-stream?

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Casting News Leaves Fans Divided Over Missing MCU Favorites
Doctor Doom will have his hands full battling plenty of Marvel heroes, but fans couldn’t help but notice who didn’t make the casting cut.
According to details shared byDeadline, Marvel Studios captured 275 million digital views and 3.1 million social media mentions while it was revealing the 27 names that will make up the main cast of the new Avengers movie. Additionally, it garnered over 55 different trending terms on X/Twitter, and theDoomsdayhashtag held the top spot for over seven hours.

Even just a quick look at Marvel Entertainment’s YouTube channel tells a clear tale of its own. The shortened teaser released after the live stream ended has over seven million views, compared torecentDaredevil: Born Againclipsthat have leveled out around two million, and even theThunderbolts*trailer, which has 3.6 million. The live stream pulled in over five million views compared to the 2.3 million received byThe Fantastic Four: First Stepslaunch video over a month ago.
The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast… So Far
Those who dipped in and out of the live-stream, or caught up later, saw the roster of names attached to the new Marvel movie begin with Chris Hemsworth and end with – who else – Robert Downey Jr. However, in between there were some expected, and a lot of surprising names thrown into the mix to set people talking.
In total 27 cast members were named, including Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/Thing), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America),Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique), James Marsden (Cyclops), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Channing Tatum (Gambit), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Lewis Pullman (Sentry), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/U.S. Agent), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Hannah John-Kaman (Ava Starr/Ghost), Letitia Wright (Suri/Black Panther), Tenoch Huerta Majia (Namor), and more.

Not only that, but Marvel Studios has already hinted that this is not the complete cast of the movie – which is pretty much what everyone expected anyway. With the Multiverse Saga set to end inAvengers: Secret Wars, and Doctor Strange and Spider-Man movies expected to land in and around the two Avengers titles, there are clearly many more of Earth’s mightiest heroes set to return to screens, even just for a very short appearance.
Over the last three years, there have been many who have questioned whether Marvel Studios can ever bring the MCU back to the same kind of audience and box office thatAvengers: Endgamedelivered in 2019. It looks like, regardless of what some will say, the answer is an inevitable yes.
