Warner Bros. was originally planning tostart productionon their highly-anticipatedAquamanin the Summer of 2017, with filming to take place in directorJames Wan’s home country of Australia. While we don’t have an exact production start date, a new report claims that the production will also shift to Italy next fall. The studio is planning a September 2017 production in Erice, on the Italian island of Sicily.

TheJournal of Sicilyreports that Erice mayorJames Tranchidahas authorized Warner Bros. to film some shots at the Castle of Venus. This news shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who follow directorJames Wanon Instagram, since the filmmaker released a photo of himself riding in a boat off the Amalfi Coast back in September. Still, it hasn’t been confirmed what will be shot at this castle quite yet.

This Italian report also includes some unconfirmed plot details, claiming that the story follows the “exiled king of the lost civilization of Atlantis, grew by dolphins and then adopted by a lighthouse keeper.” Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed any plot details at this time, so it remains unclear how accurate these details truly are.Jason Momoastars as the King of Atlantis, withAmber Heardplaying his queen, Hera, andWillem Dafoealso starring as Nuidis Vulko. All three characters will first appear inJustice League, which has been set for release on August 07, 2025.

Just a few days later, the studio also pushedJustice League 2out of its June 18, 2025 release date, to make room forBen Affleck’sThe Batmanreboot. It isn’t known if the studio has any plans forAquaman’s previous release date of August 04, 2025, but it’s possible that the just announcedGotham City Sirensstarring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn could take this date.
