Aquamandoesn’t arrive in theaters until2018. And that’s probably a good thing, as it sounds likeWarner Bros. and DC Comicsstill aren’t sure which direction to take thisunderwater superhero adventure. A new writer has been brought in to work on the story. But it isn’t known how he fits into the overall puzzle currently being laid out in terms of bringing this all together.

James Wan, who co-created theSawhorror franchise, is still directingAquaman. But he doesn’t have a script locked into place yet. This movie is taking an interesting approach to the material. There are currently two different writers working on two different scripts. Will Beall is writing the first version, while Kurt Johnstad is working on a completely different draft. It is believed that the best material from both will be merged together.

Now, Warner Bros. andDChave brought in writer David Leslie Johnson. He is known for such lackluster box office efforts asWrath of the TitansandRed Riding Hood. Both of those movies were also housed at Warner Bros. At this time, it isn’t known how David Leslie Johnson will be utilized in the writing process. With two scripts being developed on dual tracks, it isn’t clear if he’s being brought into work on one or the other.

One source close to the production claims that David Leslie Johnson is being brought in as a third rail on the development track, and may be penning his own version of the screenplay. Others claim that he is working alongsideJames Wanin streamlining the project. WhileJames Wanisn’t contributing as a writer himself, he is in charge of developing this action-adventure. He came aboard shortly after his last directorial effort,Furious 7, proved to be a box office smash, and has since gone onto become one of the top ten money makers of 2015.

Jason Momoastars as the iconicKing of AtlantisinAquaman. No story details have been revealed yet. But it is known that the character will make his big screen entrance in this spring’s epic superhero adventureBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Though no script is in place yet, the movie is still on target for it’s July 2018 release date. At this time, Warner Bros. has no comment.

David Leslie Johnsongot his first big break working as Frank Darabont’s assistant. While his movies haven’t been huge successes at Warner Bros., the studio views him as a favorite, and are eager to have him continue working within the studio structure.
