That’s a wrap onAquaman and the Lost Kingdom. On Instagram, Jason Momoa shared a video announcing that filming has officially wrapped on the DC sequel after shooting for half a year. In the video, which you can watch below, Momoa also takes a moment to promote his eco-friendly shades with proceeds of the sales naturally going to Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii.
“Alright, the last day’s in Hawaii, we’re wrapping upAquaman,” saysJason Momoain the video. “That’s about six months, six months of playing this guy. That’s a wrap. Yeah!”

James Wan directsAquaman and the Lost Kingdomusing a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick; Momoa contributed to the story in addition to starring. The cast also includes Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm Marius,Yahya Abdul-Mateen IIas David Kane aka Black Manta, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, and Vincent Regan as Atlan.Dolph Lundgren, who’s also back as King Nereus, has teased that this sequel is even better than the first movie.
“That whole picture is just a class act,“Lundgren told The Hollywood Reporter recently.“Everybody from James Wan and Jason Momoa to Amber Heard and the producers. I think this one is better. I think the script is stronger and it’s more exciting. The technology has moved forward in four years, so I was really pleased to be a part of it. James Wan is just going to blow everybody away again by this tremendous world that he creates. He’s involved in every little detail, even every little piece of every weapon, and I think it’s going to be great.”
Director James Wan has also teased a darker tone for the sequel, telling Total Film, “Aquaman 2is very heavily inspired byPlanet of the Vampires.you’re able to take the boy out of horror but you can never take the horror out the boy… Well, the first movie took a lot of people by surprise, right? And that’s partially because they were not familiar with the comic book, which deals in this very lurid, strange world. People were taken aback that I didn’t throw all that stuff away and make a dark, heavy film. But I didn’t feel that would have been right for it. So with the second film, I feel it will be easier for people to accept where we go because I’ve already laid the foundation.”
Filming onAquaman and the Lost Kingdomhas not been without its setbacks. Jason Momoa, who’s said how he’s been left battered and bruised by all of the action sequences he’s filmed, reportedly contractedCOVID-19 during production, with the news of his diagnosis breaking last month. Fortunately, as Momoa has now revealed, they have finally reached the end of production so the sequel can head into the editing room. We’re about a full year ahead of the sequel’s release, and given certain controversies surrounding the film, which include petitions to avoid it, it will be interesting to see if it’s as successful financially as the original.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis scheduled to be released in theaters on Aug 05, 2025.
