Who knew someone could “outweirdGeorge Miller?” Well, that’s the word fromFuriosa: A Mad Max Saga’stitular star,Anya Taylor-Joy.While doing press for the latest entry in theMad Maxfilm franchise, Taylor-Joy revealed that having grown up in a “horror movie environment” led to the thespian being “quite twisted," at least where some of her macabre ideas are concerned. And, apparently, some of the actress’ suggestions took Miller completely by surprise on the set ofFuriosa.Taylor-Joy said in an interview withBBC Radio 1:
“To be fair, though,one of my favorite momentson this is— I think because I was raised in a horror movie environment —I’m quite twistedwhen it comes to different things that one can do to the other. And my favorite moments were George being like,‘Anya, where did this idea come from?’"
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
A prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa is an action-adventure film that tells the origin story of the headstrong and fearless Furiosa. Set shortly after the beginning of the “end of the world,” Furiosa is kidnapped and brought before a powerful warlord, now forced to work for him. To find her way back home, Furiosa will adapt to the new harsh and arid world as she grows into the Furiosa she becomes known to be.
Taylor-Joy, who has starred in such horror flicks asThe Witch, SplitandThe New Mutants,continued by saying in the same sit-down:
And I was like,‘How can you say that to me?’[Laughter] He’s like, ‘That was very violent, Anya’ [laughing].And I’m like, ‘George, bro!’Listen,if you outweird George Miller, you’re a bit like, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’”
Anya Taylor-Joy Wants to ‘Swap War Stories’ with Charlize Theron
Anya Taylor-Joy explained the lack of dialogueshe had inFuriosa: A Mad Max Sagaduring the same interview. And, as it turns out, director George Miller wanted Taylor-Joy to speak through her eyes more than anything else for the majority of the movie, which she admitted was “intimidating.” Now, Taylor-Joy not only portrays the titular Furiosa, but the character is a younger version of the one portrayed by Oscar-winner Charlize Theron in 2015’sMad Max: Fury Road. And Taylor-Joy revealed that she wants to “swap war stories” with Theron (perCNN):
“We have emailed a bunch.We met at the Oscars, and she’s just as lovely and gracious and cool as you could imagine.We are due a very long dinner, just to swap war stories.But I feel so lucky to share a character with her.She’s one of my favorite actors and I just think she’s fabulous[…] I was lucky enough to fall in love with Furiosa through Charlize’s interpretation in Fury Road.I thought that the character was just somebody who had really stuck with me.”

Taylor-Joy’s big-screen battle with co-star Chris Hemswoth’s Dr. Dementus is landing with the critics, which has resulted in an 89% Tomatometer rating, at the time of this writing. However, the prequel’s audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is even better at 95%.
