We’re less than 24 hours away from the premiere ofAnother Simple Favor, and ahead of the sequel’s release on Prime Video, directorPaul Feighas revealed what it was like behind the scenes with starsBlake LivelyandAnna Kendrick. Having been filmed afterIt Ends with Us, did all that baggage from the set of the Colleen Hoover adaptation come with Lively, or was she able to ditch it at the door? According to Feig, things couldn’t have gone better.
Speaking with RadioTimes before the release ofAnother Simple Favoron June 25, 2025, Feig said that Lively and Kendrick were once again able to create “magic” on the set of his latest film, which serves as a sequel to 2018’sA Simple Favor. This time around, the conniving Emily Nelson (Lively) invites her frenemey, Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick), to be the maid of honor at her wedding as she gets hitched to an Italian businessman on the island of Capri. There’s a murder, a twist, a turn, and maybe even a full roundabout as the plot unfolds, and for Feig, he said Kendrick and Lively were easily able to pick up from where they left off seven years ago:
“I always, when I can, I try to cross-shoot, which means I’m shooting both of them at the same time, so we’re getting their reactions to each other in real time. The second or third day, Laura Fisher, my producing partner, and I were just at the monitor going, like, ‘Oh my God.’ Like, their chemistry just came back so fast, and it’s so infectious that it’s just… there’s some magic that happens between them.”

This spells good news for the fans who were worried that all that drama on the set ofIt Ends with Uswould affect Lively’s performance in her new comedic mystery, which has thus far earned favorable reviews from critics. The film isholding steady on Rotten Tomatoeswith an 81% rating, with Devesh Sharma from Filmfare saying that it’s “great fun, packed with cheeky jokes, wild twists, and two brilliant leads who make all the nonsense totally watchable.” Needless to say, it’s nice to hear that Lively was a true pro, and didn’t let things affect her as she reunited with Kendrick for what promises to be a fun watch this weekend.
Is There Another Favor in Store For Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick?
Released in 2018,A Simple Favormanaged to exceed expectations at the box office, earning $97 million against a $20 million dollar budget. A sequel was inevitable, and though it took seven years for us to get there, we finally get to see what mayhem awaits Emily and Stephanie next. As to what the future holds? Feig spoke to MovieWeb’s George Edleman (seen above) about a third entry in the series, saying that there are definitely more stories to tell:
“They’ve evolved so much, the two characters. Especially Stephanie, who is in a completely different place now, having solved a lot of stuff, and figured Emily out more than she has, to an extent. I think there’s a lot more room for their tentative friendship to go in different ways.”
WithAnother Simple Favorskipping theaters and heading straight to streaming, it’ll be a little harder to measure its success. Hopefully it can generate enough views to warrant a third entry in the series, but if not, at least Feig, Kendrick, and Lively can hold their heads up high knowing they’vecreated comedy gold with a mysterious twist.
