Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe continues to expand on AMC and AMC+. The network will soon add a third title to its Anne Rice-based catalog. According toVariety, the upcoming still untitled series will focus on the Talamasca, a secret society that aims to protect humans by researching, watching over, and tracking paranormal entities like witches, vampires, and werewolves. The Talamasca is not the focus of any particular Rice novel, but mentioned throughout several books withinThe VampireChroniclesandLives of the Mayfair Witchesseries.
“The enthusiastic critical and fan reception toInterviewandMayfairis a great sign of what is yet to come in this immersive universe based on the works of Anne Rice,” Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, said in a statement. “We’re excited to be in active development of the next installment in this growing franchise, written and to be showrun by the incomparable John Lee Hancock. The Talamasca is one of the most intriguing elements of Rice’s works and a connective thread through so many of her stories, the standalone and crossover potential for this third series is immense.”

John Lee Hancockis attached to the upcoming series as writer and showrunner. Hancock has directed several successful films includingThe Rookie, Saving Mr. Banks, andThe Founder, but is perhaps best known for his writing and directing the Academy Award-nominatedThe Blind Side. Most recently, Hancock wrote and directedMr. Harrigan’s Phone, a horror film based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name.

AMC’s Commitment to Anne Rice
In 2020, AMC acquired the rights toThe Vampire ChroniclesandLives of the Mayfair Witches,two of Rice’s series. Together, the two best-selling series contain 18 titles.Interview with the Vampirepremiered late 2022, becoming the network’s first venture into Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe. The series quickly gained critical praise and a second-season renewal.Mayfair Witchespremiered in January 2022, and although criticalreception was less favorable, the series quickly became AMC+’s number-one new series. In February, it was renewed for a second season. Fans of AMC’s Rice Universe will recall talks of the Talamasca onMayfair Witches.
Interview with the VampirestarsSam Reid and Jacob Anderson. The series follows the tale of three vampires, Louis de Pointe du Lac (Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Reid) and Claudia (Delainey Hayles), as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). The second season is currently in production.

Mayfair Witchesstars Alexandra Daddario as Rowan Fielding, a young neurosurgeon who discovers she is the descendant of powerful witches. The supernatural drama also stars Jack Huston, Tongayi Chirisa and Harry Hamlin. Shooting for the second season is set to begin later this year in New Orleans.
Rice died in December 2021, at 80, before the premiere of either series.
