This spring’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicenot only introduced fans to the new Dark Knight, played byBen Affleck, but alsoGal Gadot’sWonder Woman, along with cameo appearances from the rest of theJustice Leagueteam, Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller) and Cyborg (Ray Fisher). Concept artistRobert McKinnonshared some of his designs fromBatman v Supermanon his official website, which offer a look at some of his early designs for the weapons used by Aquaman and Wonder Woman. These latest images also show Superman’s casket, along with an alternate take on the Man of Steel’s defaced statue, with one big difference.
Robert McKinnonrecently updated his profile onKrop.com, a site where creative artists can upload their portfolios, which includes several new pieces of concept art fromBatman v Superman. The artwork includes alternate designs forAquaman’s trident,Wonder Woman’s sword, Superman’s casket and Superman’s statue. In the movie, this statue looked much different, and was defaced with red graffiti that read “False God,” but in this early design, Superman is seen flying, instead of kneeling, and the graffiti in this version reads “Nazi God” instead of “False God.”
These images also feature early designs of theBatwing, the iconic Batsignal, the Kryptonite spear and even a rough sketch of the Gotham City skyline, complete with the Batsignal shown lighting up the sky. We don’t know how early on in the production process these illustrations were commissioned, but directorZack Snydermust have enjoyed his work, since he has also come aboard for the highly-anticipatedJustice Leagueadaptation, which is currently in production and set for release on June 10, 2025.
WhileWonder Womanwas featured throughoutBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,Aquamanwas only featured in a brief cameo towards the end of the film. We got our first look atAquamanduring a scene whereBen Affleck’s Bruce Wayne accessed Lex Luthor’s files, watching underwater drone footage ofAquamanbeing discovered, before this hero destroys the drone with his trident. We also saw security footage ofThe Flashfoiling a convenience store robbery and footage ofCyborg’s experiments with his father, played byJoe Morton.
