With his time as one of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in theMarvelCinematic Universe possibly winding down,Chris Hemsworthmay have found a new franchise to star in.The Tracking Boardreports that the actor is circling a new spec script entitledAllan Quatermain, written by up and coming scribeBarnett Brettler. Sony Pictures is eyeing the script, which is being considered to start a new franchise.

No story details have been given thus far, but theAllan Quartermaincharacter has been seen on the big screen several times. The beloved character first appeared in H. Rider Haggard’s 1885 novelKing Solomon’s Mines, which spawned 13 sequels. On the big screen, the character has been played by Richard Chamberlain in the 1985 adaptation of King Solomon’s Mines, and its 1986 sequel Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold. Most recently,Sean Conneryportrayed the adventurer in 2003’sThe League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, andPatrick Swayzeplayed this iconic character in the two-part 2004miniseriesadaptation of King Solomon’s Mines.

In the original novel,Allan Quatermainis a big game hunter who is well-versed with the South African terrain. He is often recruited to go on adventures in search of treasure. The character is one of the major influences onHarrison Ford’s iconicIndiana Jones. In theKing Solomon’s Minesnovel, the character is described as 55 years old with a lanky build and a white beard, although he has never been portrayed as such in any of the big screen adaptations.

DreamWorks had previously attempted to craft a modern-day version of this beloved character, withSam Worthingtonattached to star at one point, but the movie never got off the ground. Since this is being eyed to start a franchise, it’s possible this version ofAllan Quatermainwill provide an origin story for this beloved character, although it isn’t known if the script is being adapted fromKing Solomon’s Mines, or any other literary source. The franchise potential may all depend on whether or notChris Hemsworthfinalizes a deal to star.
