It would appear thatAlfred Molinahas learned his lesson after inadvertently spoiling his role inSpider-Man: No Way Home. Back in late 2020, rumors had emerged that Molina would be reprising hisSpider-Man 2role as Doc Ock in the film. The actor himself seemed to confirm his involvement in an interview when he said that things were going “great” to a sly journalist who questioned him aboutNo Way Homebefore his return was officially announced.
In a new interview withRadio Times, Molina is reflecting on how it felt to let the cat out of the bag. He says how the slip had brought him heat at Marvel Studios with producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige feeling rather frustrated with him at the time. He isn’t going to make that mistake again, whether or not he ever gets the chance to return as Doc Ock in the MCU once again. Here’s what Molina said when asked if a potential return is something that could happen.

“I can neither confirm nor deny. That’s the official line. I got into a bit of trouble over the last iteration because I happened to let the cat out of the bag quite innocently. Just accidentally, I was talking to a journalist who said, ‘So, you know, how’s the Spider-Man movie going?’ And I went, ‘Oh, great thanks’. Then literally the next day, Variety was like, ‘Alfred Molina reveals Doc Ock returns.'”
Molina then spoke about the trouble his mess-up had gotten him into, which now has him always referring to a new go-to line when asked similar questions in interviews like these moving forward.
“I got into such trouble. I was getting phone calls from Amy Pascal, Kevin Feige was on the red carpet somewhere and somebody asked him about some Marvel movie and apparently he got a bit snippy and turned around and said,‘Ask Alfred Molina’.So I got into a little bit of hot water. So that’s the official line - I can neither confirm nor deny.”

Did Alfred Molina Spoil No Way Home?
Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock was the first character from an alternateSpider-Manuniverse to be reportedly attached toSpider-Man: No Way Home. Once he confirmed his inclusion in the movie, that heavily fueled the rumors that Tobey Maguire would also return as the Spidey who fought Doc Ock alongsideThe Amazing Spider-Manstar Andrew Garfield. The two alternate Spideys were never officially confirmed to be in the film prior to its release, though other villains from their universes had also been revealed to be involved, such as Jamie Foxx’s Electro and Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman.
Spider-Man: No Way Homehit theaters in December 2021 to immense success. Even without the official confirmation that Maguire and Garfield would be included, the anticipation of the ultimate live-action Spidey team-up had certainly contributed to the movie’s sky-high ticket sales. The film also blew the door to the multiverse wide open for special cameos to happen in other films as well. But it all began with Molina accidentally spoiling the return of Doc Ock.
