Ahsokawill return to Disney+ for a second season, Lucasfilm confirmed today. As part of a far-reaching statement that announced anew Mandalorian movie from director Jon Favreau, an announcement on Tuesday revealed that Dave Filoni is currently working on the second season of the Rosario Dawson-led series.
With the first season ending with a strong hint that Ahsoka’s story was a long way from being done, the announcement did not come as a shock to anyone. However, there are certainly a lot of questions still to be answered about the new season, not least whether there will be the chance forHayden Christensento make another appearance as Anakin Skywalker.

The idea ofHayden Christensen returning to his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader seemed to be as far away as the galaxy in which the character resides until just a couple of years ago, when it was revealed that the actor would be joining former costar Ewan McGregor inObi-Wan Kenobi. From the moment he appeared on-screen, to his final appearance as a fully formed Vader, fans of the franchise were delighted to see Christensen’s comeback.
Now, following his mostrecent appearance as Anakin in last year’s first season ofAhsoka, Christensen responded to the idea of returning to the role again in the future. Speaking onThe Dagobah Dispatchpodcast, the actor said:

I would love to get to do more, I would love to get to continue withStar Wars. We’ll see. I don’t know what the future holds, if such an opportunity presents itself, I’ll be there with a big smile on my face. If it doesn’t, I feel really grateful for getting to come back and do the work that I did, both inObi-WanandAhsoka.

Ahsoka Season 2 Is Just A Small Part of Star Wars' Big Future
The latest update from Lucasfilm on the future ofStar Warstouched on the other projects now being worked on in order to bring the franchise back to the big screen after several years of releasing nothing but Disney+ shows such asThe MandalorianandObi-Wan Kenobi.
Along with the second season ofAhsoka, other Disney+ shows coming down the line areAndorseason 2, andThe Acolyte. More importantly, there are now a number of new feature films also in active development. This includes previously announced movies by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and James Mangold, the Mandalorian Era-ending movie by Dave Filoni, and the newly announcedThe Mandalorian & Grogumovie, which many believe will replace the fourth season of the Disney+ series. Then, of course, there is also the “in-development” movie from Taiki Waititi to add into the mix, if it ever gets off the ground.

All of this suggests that, as reported last year, Lucasfilm’s focus is going to be firmly set on theStar Warsfranchise. Whether an incoming wave of new movies is a good thing is something we are still a few years away from finding out.
