With just four days left until the firstStar Warsspin-offRogue Onehits theaters, the next bigStar Warsmovie,Star Wars 8, is just a mere 368 days away from arriving in theaters.Production wrappedback in July, but we haven’t had any indication yet about when the first trailer forStar Wars 8will arrive. If one of the film’s stars has his way, there wouldn’t be any trailers released at all for this highly-anticipated sequel, but, thankfully, it’s not up to him.
While we’ll have to wait another year to seeAdam Driverreturn as the villainousKylo Ren, fans will be able to see him on the big screen inMartin Scorsese’sSilence, which opens in limited release on December 23 before expanding nationwide next month.CinemaBlendcaught up with the actor while he was promoting that movie, and they asked him whether or not he would enjoy it ifStar Wars 8opened next year without Disney or LucasFilm releasing a single trailer for the film. You may recall that, back in late November 2014, Disney and LucasFilm debuted the first 88-second teaser trailer forStar Wars: The Force Awakens, more than a year before it was set to hit theaters. A few weeks ago, an unconfirmed report surfaced that claimed the firstStar Wars 8 trailerwill arrive in the first quarter of 2017, meaning sometime between January and March. While that doesn’t exactly narrow down the debut’s timeframe too much, some have speculated that it could debut during this year’sSuper Bowl, while others believe it could be attached to Disney’s highly-anticipatedBeauty and the Beast, which hits theaters on March 17.
Aside from the trailer premiere date, one of the other big mysteries swirling aroundStar Wars 8is the official title. You may recall that Disney unveiled the full title forStar Wars: The Force Awakensin early November 2014, just weeks before the first teaser trailer arrived. If the studio sticks with the same strategy, the title reveal may once again foreshadow when the trailer is coming. As it turns out, if a report from yesterday is to be believed, then Disney may have already inadvertently leaked the full title already.
Disney has reportedly file a trademark to the European Union Intellectual Property Office forStar Wars: Forces of Destiny, which could be the official title. However,Forces of Destinywas included in a list of over 2,000 words as part of the trademark application, which consists of clothing, toys and other items related to futureStar Warsendeavors. If the trailer forStar Wars: Episode VIIIis actually coming early next year, then perhaps the title will arrive even sooner, allowingStar Warsfans to put at least one of the many mysteries surrounding thisStar Warssequel to rest.
