As one of the most iconic villains in horror, Freddy Krueger’s evil became a little jaded by his sarcastic one-liners in later movies, but before that happenedA Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriorsseemed to give the Springwood killer a first of many definite endings and even brought back original “final girl” Heather Langenkamp. As one of the most loved movies in the franchise, it is not surprising that Freddy fans took to social media to share some love for the movie’s 35th anniversary.

While there are many who would love to see Robert Englund return once more as Krueger, the actor himself has made it clear that, to him, the time for Freddy has now passed when it comes to new movies. He did reprise the role forThe Goldberg’s Halloween Speciala few years ago, but that may be all fans of the iconic horror star can hope for. That means his previous appearances as Freddy are even more special to horror lovers.

Nancy and Freddy Krueger in Nightmare On Elm Street

The 1987 second sequel to Wes Craven’s original movie saw Craven coming up with the story and joining Frank Darabont, Bruce Wagner and director Chuck Russell on scriptwriting duties. Pretty much ignoring the events ofNightmare 2, the film acts as a direct sequel to the first movie, with Heather Langenkamp reprising her role as Nancy, who attempts to help a group of teens in a Psychiatric Hospital defeat Krueger once and for all.

Almost Two Decades After His Last Movie, Robert Englund Is Still Asked About A Freddy Return

Next year, movie manic mashupFreddy vs Jasonhits its 20th anniversary, marking two decades since Englund last played the knife-fingered killer in a movie. Despite a reboot attempt in 2010, it seems that Englund’s on-screen persona and delivery of the character has become such a hard act to follow that the actor is constantly questioned about playing him again.

“I’m too old to do another Freddy now,” Englund told withEntertainment Weeklyin 2017. “If I do a fight scene now it’s got to be real minimal because I can’t snap my head for eight different takes and different angles. My spine gets sore. I can still be mean and scary, but I’m mostly relegated now to sort of Van Helsing roles, old doctors and sh*t. So it’s fun that the last moment of me ever playing Freddy is a wink to the audience. And when you’ve survived as long as I have and you see that, you can be real happy that you got 20 years as Freddy Krueger, you know?”

Englund has continued to have a prolific career outside of his Freddy role, and will be seen in the upcoming season ofStranger Things, hopefully being “mean and scary,” as a brilliant piece of casting considering the show’s huge affiliation with everything 80s. When it comes to Englund’s most iconic role though, it is through movies likeDream Warriorsthat the legend of Freddy Krueger in his original form will live on. The spinoff Nightmare on Elm Street series recently started streaming for the first time ever on Screambox for those needing another Freddy fix.
