TheFerris Bueller’s Day Offspinoff is a go, with Paramount Pictures calling onDavid Katzenbergto direct the upcoming project and return to the world of the beloved John Hughes movie. The spinoff, titledSam and Victor’s Day Off, will follow the two valets who, in the 1986 original, “borrow” the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder belonging to Ferris’ best friend, Cameron’s father.
According toTHR, David Katzenberg has now signed on to helm the project, with the story taking place over a single day as audiences see what the titular Sam and Victor got up to while cruising around in the car andcausing Cameron all manner of stress. Originally portrayed in the film by Richard Edson and Larry “Flash” Jenkins,Sam and Victor’s Day Offwill be set during the events ofFerris Bueller’s Day Off, and will no doubt include all sorts of crowd-pleasing Easter eggs along the way.

This will not be the first time that Katzenberg has dealt with the 80s, and the nostalgia that often comes with it, having directed many episodes of the sitcom,The Goldbergs, as well as producing the 80s set Stephen King outing,It. Katzenberg’s other credits include directing episodes ofAverage Joe, 911: Lone Star, Young Rock,andThe Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and writing the likes ofThe Hard Times of RJ Bergerand the upcoming Tim Burton sequel,Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

Sam and Victor’s Day Offis being produced by Paul Young (Key & Peele) through his company, Argyle Media. Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald (the co-creators ofCobra Kai) are producing with their head of development Dina Hillier as an executive producer.

“What’s my legacy? Well, I’m Ferris Bueller, I suppose. I have to accept it. And I like it. I’ve made my peace with it.”
