Some of these winners have already been announced at last weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys, which includedMelissa McCarthyfor her Sean Spicer impersonation onSaturday Night Live, but the main awards will be handed out tonight.Stephen Colberthosts tonight’s awards ceremony, with the coveted Oustanding Drama Series category featuring five newcomers out of the seven nominees. Previous nominees AMC’sBetter Call Sauland Netflix’sHouse of Cardsare joined this year by newcomers such as Netflix’sThe Crown, Hulu’sThe Handmaid’s Tale, Netflix’sStranger Things, HBO’sWestworldand the only drama series representative from any broadcast network, NBC’sThis Is Us.
In the Outstanding Comedy Series category, with hit new FX seriesAtlantajoined by previous nominees such as ABC’sblack-ish, Netflix’sMaster of None,Modern Family, HBO’sSilicon Valley, Netflix’sUnbreakable Kimmy Schmidtand HBO’sVeep.Saturday Night LiveandWestworldled the tally for the most nominations (22) in all categories, followed byStranger ThingsandFEUD: Bette and Joan(18) andVeep(17). Leading the nominations in totals by platform were HBO (110), Netflix (91) and NBC (60).
Multiple nominees included Aziz Ansari, Riz Ahmed, Ty Burrell, Alec Baldwin, Ann Dowd,Donald Glover, Ewan McGregor, Matthew Rhys and Liev Schreiber. Five-time Emmy winner John Lithgow received his 12th nomination, three-time Emmy winner Jessica Lange received another nomination forFEUD: Bette and Joan, while first-time Emmy nominees in the Limited Series or Movie categories included Robert De Niro, Carrie Coon and Reese Witherspoon.
